Came across this today...Lil wayne blogging for espn: amazing!

First of all, wow. I am overwhelmed by the response to my first blog entry. I think I read the first 402 comments. A lot of them were crazy. A thousand comments in the first day? That makes me happy. I've been telling people, "Man I got a blog on ESPN," and they go, "Yeah, boy, but you're latest song is crazy!" and I'm like, "I know, but did you see my blog?" I am so excited to have this opportunity. You don't understand. I got ESPN tattooed on my arm. I've had it for at least three months now, so that should show you how seriously I'm gonna take this. I know some people out there don't think it's really me, but you have to prove a lot of things when you're an entertainer, so I'm used to it.

I got a lot of phone calls about the blog from people I know, too. Everybody I talked to liked it, and even people I didn't expect are looking at it. For example, I did a GQ interview the day after it came out, and the reporter was like, "By the way, I love the blog." And I thought, "Wow, ok. People are seeing this."

My brother Ocho Cinco gave me a personal message to put in the blog, and that's that "he wants to win," end quote. My man Chris Paul called mad 'cause I didn't say nothing about him. He was kinda upset.

LIL WAYNE ON THE NFL

First off, my heart goes out to Richard Collier on the Jaguars and the kicker from Tampa Bay, Matt Bryant, who lost his baby. He went out and played, too, on Sunday. That, to me, is the definition of amazing.

Now on to Brett Favre. He must know God's phone number, 'cause he is superhuman. Like, Brett Farve? Come on. He's like 3900 years old and he threw for six touchdowns? He's never even done that in his whole career. And he does it with the Jets when no one is expecting nothing from him. There's a reason why he's my favorite player of all-time. He's getting better with time, as scary as that sounds. It's a great thing to watch. He still takes those shots. He still takes those risks. And those receivers were amazing, and the line, man, the offensive line was unexplainable.

As a Packers fan, it actually doesn't bother me to see Favre go off like that, 'cause it's an AFC team that he plays for. It's kind of like a double positive for me. I'm glad when the Packers do well, and I'm extra glad when Brett Favre does well. The only way the Packers and Jets will meet is if it's the Super Bowl, and that would just be a wonderful dream come true. If that happened, I wouldn't be rooting for anybody. I'd just sit back and enjoy a great football game. But that's too far down the line, and I'm not tryin' to jinx it.

I liked the majority of what I saw in the Packers game Sunday. I know this kid Aaron Rodgers is a fighter, and I really hope he comes back for the next game, because it really wouldn't look good to go out after four games after backing up someone who's never missed a game.

It's a tricky thing. They say shoulder, and when they say that, that means he could be seriously injured. It's like me telling you, "I'm sick," but not telling you what's sick about me. I'm skeptical about it because when you say something like he has a sprained shoulder, come on, who sprains their shoulder? I've never sprained my shoulder. And when I sprain my ankle or my wrist, it takes a few weeks for me to feel better. I'm not an athlete, but that's just how it goes. You have to watch that, when they start talking about your shoulder. It starts out with the back-up taking more and more snaps in practice this week, and then the next thing you know, you've got a new QB in there on Sunday. So, I'm a little nervous. A little skeptical.

I'm gonna watch the baseball games today at my house. On Sundays, I pretty much don't leave my house until after all the games are over, and then I go into the studio. I have five TVs in my house and we have like 85 TVs in the studio, and all of them will be on different sports. We have just the scoreboard, and I have the ticker and all the packages and all that. I always have people over watching the football games, because we're all in fantasy leagues. I have a wonderful chef and he cooks whatever I like. During the games it's usually steak and lobster. I'm a steak and lobster dude. My friends don't get their choice of food, they just gotta eat whatever I was feeling that day.

I won my fantasy football match-up this week, by the way. I slayed 'em 79-43. I'm 3-1 now. They still don't know it's me, even though I use my real name, Dwayne Carter, on there. Even if there's a guy who knows who I am, he's probably looking at that and going, yeah, whatever. I still feel like it was a good call to drop Roethlisberger. This week I started Campbell from the Redskins, and that was great.

People were also asking in the blog comments why don't I like the Saints? I do like the Saints, but I'm not a Saints fan first, and that's only because that shows my true love for sports. I'm not just gonna choose a favorite team just 'cause that's my city. The only reason why I'm a Saints fan is because that's my city, but I'm a true Packers fan.

LIL WAYNE ON MLB

The Red Sox start the playoffs this week, and my thoughts are up in the air about them because, honestly, their chances are up in the air. I'm so grateful they made the post-season, but I'm kind of not sure about them. You know how you can envision a team in the World Series? I don't see them. I close my eyes and I see the Tampa Bay Rays. I'm a big emotion guy. I'm a heart guy, and I think they all play that way. They have nothing to compare this to. Whether they make it to the World Series or not, we're watching the first winning baseball team Tampa Bay has ever fielded. That right there is always amazing, no matter who the team is. I am actually trying to go down there to catch two games at the end of the week if I can. Maybe sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" or throw out the first pitch. You never know. You know they need somebody to throw the first pitch. That would be my first major league game. My dream is still to catch one at Fenway, of course.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Man-Ram this week against the Cubs. You can't put nothing past Manny's bat. You cannot beat him. Also, you can't put nothing past the manager, Joe Torre. Both the Cubs and Dodgers are in significant positions. Like, if the Cubs win, you already know they're going to the World Series. And if the Dodgers win it's a crazy story because of their new skipper and Man-Ram and everything. I've been thinking about this and I used to see the Cubs winning the World Series a few weeks ago, but now I see the Dodgers knocking them out. Why? Steve Bartman. (I'm kidding.)

But you know, everything the Rays have going for them the Cubs have going against them. They've got the weight of losing for 100 years on their shoulders. I mean, I always say athletes are professionals, and those Cub players will be able to physically perform under that kind of pressure But mentally? That's where it gets crazy. Because if one thing happens, one close call doesn't go their way, you're gonna see the fans are gonna get nervous. There's gonna be tension at Wrigley, and the players are gonna feel that, and the analysts are gonna jump on the first miscue, and it's a whole cycle where everyone is just waiting for a collapse. Because even though it's supposed to be the Cubs' year, the real story is how they haven't done it in 100 years, right? And so everyone will be thinking in the back of their heads that something bad is going to happen.

And look at Manny. He's the best hitter in the National League right now. The guy has hit like, 20 home runs since the beginning of August. That's crazy. And more dangerous than that is he's all motivated now. When I saw his braids all chopped up, that's when I knew. That's when I knew he was not only going to be this amazing player for the Dodgers, but that he was going to do in that locker room what he needed to do. He's showing he's playing by the rules. He's running out grounders faster than anybody's ever seen, stealing bases and everything. Being a Red Sox fan, it was always like we can accept his antics off the field because of what he does on it. Now he doesn't have any more antics, he's doing everything he's supposed to do, and oh my God, we've got an American Idol.

LIL WAYNE ON COLLEGE SPORTS

Some people were also asking if I like college sports, and the answer is yes, I do. For college football, my favorite team is LSU, of course. On the low, I'm a little bit of a Tulane fan as well. My assistant, she's a Tulane graduate. We almost had East Carolina this year but I ain't gonna say nothing about that.

I also like LSU for basketball, but they aren't my favorite team. That would be UNC. I'm a North Carolina fan to death. All the Dukies are gonna be mad at me, but I can't lie. They actually invited me to the Final Four and it was amazing. I have never experienced nothing like that in my life, even though I had to sit in the section of the team they were playing, it was very enjoyable. I've been a UNC fan since Ronald Curry and Julius Peppers were playing basketball. Actually, I'm just playin'. It's been way longer than that. I wanna say since Jordan was there, but of course I was way too young, so I don't wanna lie. But once I did become old enough to love basketball, at about nine years of age, of course I liked Mike. And he played for UNC, so that was why I got into them.

This summer I was doing a practice set at home playing some tracks I was digging at the time and I decided to hit record. This is the result. I didn't want to put this out because the left speaker cuts at times and I fuck up a bit towards the end but you know what screw it the few people I have shared it with have really enjoyed it so have fun with it. If you've seen me in the club you know what the deal is. I would recommend listening to this on a stereo/computer not an ipod cause when the L speaker cuts occasionally it sounds weird but normal on a stereo. Enjoy.

Modern Rock 500

Last summer I was working at this firm, trying to make some summer dough. During the workday, Id be talking to my friend Ivan on the instant messenger, trying to find some sweet iTunes radio stations to listen to while we waited for quittin time, when I stumbled upon WOXY Modern Rock 500.
Broadcasting out of Cincinnati, Ohio, WOXY has 2 stations on iTunes under the "alternative" category, one being the regular WOXY broadcast and the other being the "vintage", which is where the Modern Rock 500 was found. Apprarently every year around Memorial Day, they do a weekend where they, well, count down the top 500 modern rock songs. However this isnt your usual list where the Beatles or Nirvana are #1 and the top 10 is filled with Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, and U2. Instead, Ivan and I were going back and forth, providing commentary as we heard the likes of The Pixies followed by Portishead followed by The Stone Roses followed by Public Enemy. As opposed to the usual Beatles/Nirvana/Zepplin top songs, it seems like they base their rankings on what bands are directly responsible for what's popular today, so last year their top 5 had the likes of The Smiths "How Soon Is Now" and Joy Division "Love Will Tear Us Apart".
It was like watching one epic episode of Alternative Nation, and it was awesome. Awesome enough that I sent an email to them telling them how great it was.
Anyways, they did it again this year, and I totally forgot until the other day, and apparently theyre rebroadcasting it through this weekend, so listen while you can. The top 10 is pretty similar to last year's, but it's still awesome and might surprise you a bit.

Cavs/Wizards, Playoffs Round 1, Game 5 2008...Pregame

The game hasn't even started yet and we get this gem of Deshawn Stevenson arriving in Cleveland sporting the oh so classy Michael Vick jersey. That and some DC rapper has decided to make a song going back at Jigga man, as more details come out about that club in DC that broke the Jay-Z diss, with apparently The Handsome One getting on the mic and talking trash the night of.
And apparently Caron Butler was there and now the Wizards have boycotted the club.

I would talk even more about the whole thing, but the Washington Post's Dan Steinberg breaks it all down here.
I think the best word to describe Deshawn Stevenson right now is "mark". Like, "you a mark ass busta" ala early/mid-90's Compton rap. Shit now that I think about it, "mark" is a pretty amazing putdown, especially because it's the first name of our good buddy Mark "Ner" Kirchner.
But I digress.
Anyways, I hope tonight's game ends with confetti raining down from the rafter, "another one bites the dust" echoing, and Lebron telling that Mark like he told Chris Bosh's girlfriend: "This is your fault".

Cavs/Wizards, Playoffs Round 1, 2008

So this is how Lenny felt all those years Jordan beat the Cavs...

It's been a pretty decent series so far what with a couple of blowouts alongside the down to the wire games that have become pretty common in the 3 year saga that is the Cavs and Wizards in round 1 of the the playoffs. And like a majority of those down to the wire games, the Cavs came out on top, much to the dismay of Brendan "I'M GOING TO STAND OVER YOU AND/OR HANG ON THE RIM WITH MY BALLS IN YOUR FACE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES BECAUSE I AM AN INTIMIDATOR" Haywood, "What's Eating" Gilbert's Knees, Tuff Juice, Darius "Cream of" Songaila, Andray BLATCHE!, Caron...uh...Butler, DeShawn "At Least I've Got This Beard Growing Contest with DRU and that brunch date with Soulja Boy because I've got nothing else besides that maybe this grill and this black card which I probably dont have anymore please Lebron have mercy" Stevenson, and all the rest.

And to top it all off, Jigga Man recorded a DeShawn Stevenson diss track, which is both amazing and sad at the same time, mostly sad.

It is a best of 7 series (thanks Commissioner Stern!) and who knows, the Wiz-ards could mount a looney comeback and take the series...probably not.

its called madmosa (a mimosa with mad dog in place of the OJ) and its what youd imagine: steve and sawyer talking about stuff. movies, themselves, and possibly boobs, it clocks in at about an hour long and might or might not be funny to those who dont know them... either way they have pretty good taste and if you need the sound of two guys chattering about life in the background while you cook, clean, work, groom yourself, or commute to and fro work, this might be right up your alley.

so the cavs made a trade huh?
i thought it was a good trade when it happened, and...well it takes a little while for these things to gel.
right?
i dont have the luxury of watching the cavs all that often, but i did catch the game yesterday vs. the bulls, aka we all used to play together, remember?, and i think mike tiricho put it best when he said it wasnt the most aesthetically pleasing game, but it wasnt horrible either. there were obvious rough spots (especially on defense), but you could see the chemistry starting to come together, and guys getting more comfortable (wally world).
however, there was one weird moment yesterday: after lebron decided to activate beast mode and lay down that monster dunk in the last 4 minutes, when he lands he appears to stare down poor delonte west, his new point guard. check for yourself at about the 53 second mark:

and delonte just put his head down in shame. i honestly think that both lebron and delonte still arent used to being on the same team, and they had a flashback of this:

ok so its more of me just imagining things, but its funnier if you look at it that way. anyways, its honestly nice to see larry and drew do well somewhere else, but its also nice to see that somewhere else lose when they play the cavs. the new look cavs have had the luxury of playing some pretty crappy teams as of late, which is obviously a good thing in terms of getting things together. however, these constant injuries are not good things. anderson's back, but sasha is still out, as is gibson, and now z's out for 2 weeks with back pain. it's the curse of larry hughes. either way, im going to be pretty pumped when this team is at 100% again, and they take that shit into the playoffs.

so the cavs make that "blockbuster" trade, and now phil savage is wheeling and dealing like there's no tomorrow. now i guess this isnt that crazy seeing how he's made some pretty big deals every year for the past 3 or 4 years, but this off-season seems especially wild. first he resigns jamal lewis and derek anderson, then he picks up green bay's corey williams and detroit's shaun "i am gonna grope the hell out of that stripper" rogers to bolster the defensive line, and then he signs donte stallworth to a 20 year contract worth about $80 billion, $10 mil guranteed (the $10 mil part is factual). all of this and all they had to give up was leigh bodden and their 2nd and 3rd round draft picks. im glad to see that every year phil addresses the big problems, and the browns' run defense was a major problem. however i dont know how i feel about not having draft picks in the first 3 rounds, but as phil put it, he believes the guys he picked up couldnt have been picked up in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft, but we'll see.

all this, and spring training's started! and the tribe made no big deals in the off season, and to be honest, i liked that move. i trust in mark shapiro and the belief that last season made an already good team ever better, and this season should be it. it's the same reason i dont mind CC saying that hed rather talk about his contract after the season, like hes saying "fuck it, i want to see if we can win it all this year, then we'll see how much im worth".

all in all, the cleveland sports world will be very very interesting for the next year, and will be even more interesting next year when the cavs decide to sign chris paul.

ok so it's been a little bit...had a crazy week in cleveland with the cavs dumping half of their roster to acquire the pieces for another finals run...one of us will probably give this a run down shortly but i have other things on my mind right now...

first off see above...saturday night @ touch supper club in cleveland....shake and pop monthly event...i'm going to do a set of all crunk...really take it back to the old days of what i was really into 4 years ago etc....our boy misterbradleyp is putting the event on and it will most definately pop off....

it was a good game and i must say that i was glad to see the giants win, not because i live in new york but because i tend to root for the underdog and i am currently choosing the opposition in all sporting events involving boston teams.
the seemingly unstoppable patriots juggernaut was stopped by eli manning. who knew? and the old adage of "defense wins games" seemed to be pretty evident last night as golden boy was sacked 5 times.
there were no riots in the streets of new york, at least not in bushwick or fort greene, though i did see footage of people going buck wild in times square on the news. me? i wore a browns jacket all night.

it was an odd night of television though (a game with the patriots having a score of 17-14? with the patriots losing?), starting with fox shoving some more ryan seacrest down your throat by having do red carpet interviews. and then fox had some russel crowe narrated montage that gave howie and jimmy "chills". and then they showed this:

now i love the declaration of indendence as much as the next red blooded american, but it was kinda weird, mainly because of the grade school educational video-esque parts with the dudes dressed up in old tymey costumes. if it was just the reading of the document by NFL greats, fine. that wouldve been ok, boring, but ok. but that shit with the fake thomas jefferson and them all going "HUZZAH!" was just plain bush league. hilariously bush leage..

the commercials were so-so this year, with coke (the one with the parade balloons) and doritos (the one with the mouse beating up that dude, not the one with the girl playing the guitar) being my non-moving related favorites. however, the weirdness continued when we all had the pleasure of watching this ignorant ass commercial:

oh and tom petty and the heartbreakers playing the halftime show...not bad. i mean, not the most mindblowing thing ever, but it couldve been much much worse. i love "american girl" and "free fallin", ill admit it.

kissing suzy kolber is having a field day with this at the expense of pats fans, but with hilarious results.

and now, even though i know this game might not have gone the way that others on this blog wanted, i think theres consolation in this for all of us (uh, well mike and i) in knowing that the bumming out of randy moss and tom brady has brought the number of browns in the pro bowl to to six.

so the cavs were about mid-stride in getting their shit back together when some dude's voodoo curse from the beginning of the season finally kicks in and takes out sasha and varejao, sidelining them for over a month (in sasha's about 2). and then lebron sits out last night due to a sprained ankle and the cavs lose to the lowly ~~oklahoma~~ seattle supersonics. now im not hitting the panic button as i do realize that we're barely at the all-star break, but it seems like the season's going to be a little bumpier than last season (master of the obvious) as the team on a whole seems to be taking on more injuries and the beasts of the east seem a little more fierce this time around.
i honestly dont know whats going to happen with the trade deadline and/or jason kidd, but i will say that if the cavs are able to make a deal (which i dont think they will), i hope it doesnt involve z or gibson. for the past 3 years z has been proving his critics wrong by serving up solid numbers on offense and defense, and, well, lebron likes him. and gibson is proving himself to be a legitimate offensive threat and only time will tell how good he gets. i would hate the cavs to be one of those "well we won/bought that 1 championship that 1 year" teams (like sports teams from miami), and i just dont feel good about 35 year old jason kidd beyond a couple of seasons.
but what do i know? i really just wanted to post this youtube of donyell forgetting his jersey, thus adding to the mystique that is donyeezy (he loves benihana, has a muppet voice, and is best imagined looking like he just woke up from a nap standing in a dark hallway in a sleeping gown with a sleeping cap on his head holding a candle). oh, and you and i have better physiques than him. a paid professional athlete.

and i dont know if anyone else out there watches the price is right, but all week theyve been showing shows taped from about a month ago. how do i know you ask? because at least one person in every episode has been wearing an ohio state shirt of some sort and saying things like "WE'RE GONNA BEAT THE SEC" and "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!" and drew trying to save the situation by saying "well i certainly hope thats the case when this actually airs".

Ohio State? LSU? Another (crazy) season of college football that has fueled yet more arguments for and against the BCS and a college football playoff system, and all Ive gotta say is that theyve gotta do something about the 1 month gap of inactivity.
When was that Ohio State/Michigan season finale? October?
And fuck backing in. While I dont think that this Buckeye team isn't the powerhouse of last year (Illinois), it's not their fault that everyone else around them was dropping like flies. Coulda (Arkansas), Woulda (Stanford), Shoulda (Appalachian State...ha!).
I guess it should be mentioned that 4 of the head coaches who coached in BCS games this year are from Ohio, including LSU's Les Miles (Jim Tressel is a given). Im just sayin.

The Browns' "season of dreams" or whatever people were calling it came to an end thanks to a stellar performance by Jim Sorgi in a nailbiter between the 2nd string of the Colts and powerhouse that is the Tennessee Titans. And even though Im still disappointed by it all, as occasional blog contributor Steve put it, "I didnt even expect them to finish .500 so I'm optimistic for the future". Or something like that.
So now what? We saw a glimpse of Brady "Muscle Milk" (have you seen those commercials? I know its not Muscle Milk but it might as well be) Quinn and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. Granted it was 1 series against the 49er's, but if K2 hadnt have dropped his shit, that wouldve been a TD. Romeo's already stated that there is not going to be a QB controversy, and while I pray to God that there wont be, I dont see how its avoidable. I still believe in DA, but Quinn's "the future" right?
Either way I just hope they get Jamal back on board for at least another couple of seasons.

Im not gonna get into their current bout with mediocrity moreso than comment on how sweet it was that Lebron dropped 24 on the Raptors in part to spite the Raptors fans (Chris Bosh's girlfriend?) heckling him from behind the bench.

A couple of weeks ago a friend of ours sent me an email asking what was up with this blog. He cited inconsistency in the amount of posts posted, and basically called us out on a total lack of new content.
I also figure that he is the only one who noticed because he might be the only person left in the world that reads this blog. Well, that and former WJCU program director DJ Ripsta who recently commented on a post from 2 years ago.
But personally, and this is without consulting my fellow blog contributors, I think this blog has come to a crossroads (actually it got there months ago and decided to take a nap), and is pretty much knee deep in what is fondly referred to as blog suicide (see the current situation over at yaysports): our lack of production has greatly reduced our small readership to pretty much nothing which in turn makes this blog irrelevant and just another dead webpage littered along the side of the internet highway (do people still call it that?).
Interestingly enough, one of the dudes who contributed to the song that is the namesake of this blog died recently.
RIP.
So where do we go from here? Lord only knows and while I dont have much to contribute anymore (its a long story), I do what I can (sports posts) but I dont know if thats what people want and from what Ive gathered, Mike and Ben are in similar positions.
So this is the state of Supposed of Bubble in 2008 ladies and gentlemen.

Browns QBs Abound!

On a random note, former Browns QB's were all over the place yesterday with Vinny Testaverde, 54 years young, leading the Panthers to a win over the Trent Dilfer'ed 49ers, Jeff "Warehouse District/I am straight goddammit" Garcia injuring his shoulder for the Bucs, Luke McCown (!?!) coming off the bench for a Raiders win (!?!), and Tim Couch and Charlie Frye sharing an extra-value meal at McDonalds.
Browns played sloppy and pretty much beat themselves yesterday with a little help from the Cardinals. I think K2 had a legit TD at the end but whatever, the Cardinals scored 3 TD's off of 4 turnovers and the Brownies also threw in about 10,000 yards in penalties for fun.
Hopefully they'll get their shit together next week against the Jets because yours truly and occasional blog contributor Steve will be in attendance. Ill be up to my neck in New Jersey, but if I'm lucky, we'll be able to see a Browns win with a side of breasteses.

Bone finally made a movie, and it's not "Ghetto Cowboy" starring Wesley Snipes as they had promised us (no, seriously they did) 3 years ago at Peabodys. Based on the idea of "What would have happened to Bone had they never gotten their record deal?" and sharing the same name as their comeback hit "I Tried", this trailer's got it all: dramatic lines ("Nothin more dangerous than a wounded animal"), Wish and a shotgun, Krayzie doing some "art imitating life" type shit by playing a dude with too many kids, and Layzie punching people. My only disappointment is that it appears to take place in LA and not Cleveland.
One time SupposedToBubble contributer Eric Zunkley did some shit on this movie, so props to him.

Speaking of Eric Zunkley, he will also be dj'ing Hate Jamz this Saturday at Touch in Cleveland alongside his brother Beverly Thrills, Brooklyn, and your 3 Supposed To Bubble amigos.

Cavs Post Season: One Guy's Thoughts

Well, the Cavs got their asses handed to them by le Spurs, but Steve D's still got some things hed like to talk about: touching a little on Game 4, and pondering the post-season. A gentleman and a scholar, Steve teaches middle school kids in New Jersey, likes barbecue, and hates that guy from Human Giant/Best Week Ever with the gap in his teeth. Most importantly, he is a tried and true Cleveland fan who calls it like it is.

Well, I guess the name's arent the same, but this is still pretty damned funny.

Final Thoughts on Game 4
I watched the game. I got pumped during the end of the 3rd quarter and the start of the 4th when the Cavs were playing out of their minds and the crowd was going crazy.
And then I realized, “We’re playing the best we’ve played all series and we’re only ahead by one measly point.”
It was at that moment that Tony Parker hit a three pointer and the Spurs coasted their way to a championship win.
Sigh

Off-season Wish List

1) A real point guard
-Remember when all the Cavs had were point guards? Mark Price, Terrell Brandon, Brevin Knight, Andre Miller… Now we have the greatest player of a generation and who’s running the offense? Jeff McInnis, Kevin Ollie, Eric Snow…
-I don’t think Mike Bibby is a good idea. He’s not the distributor we need and he is not a great defender. Plus he’s on the downside of his career and costs a pretty penny.
-I like Mo Williams, but he might cost too much.
-I would settle for Steve Blake at a bargain.

2) 1-2 Young Post Players
-Z is too old to play heavy minutes. Same with Marshall. Gooden is too inconsistent. We need 1-2 high energy guys to come in and play hard nose defense, get rebounds, and catch passes from LeBron.

3) Offensive Plan
-Jordan excelled in Tex Winters’ Triangle offense; Magic thrived in Paul Westhead’s Showtime offense. The Cavs need a gameplan/strategy.
-Apparently the Cavs are cool to the idea of bringing in an offensive guru. Fine, but this team needs an offensive identity and if they don’t want to hire someone to create it, Brown’s got his work cut out for him this summer. Another season of everyone watching LeBron hold the ball will not work.

4) A New Move for LeBron
-Jordan came back every season with a new move. A new weapon. LeBron needs to have that same approach this summer. Hell, come up with two new moves. May I suggest a post-up move and a consistent jumper?

Payroll Flexibility
-The Cavs are paying Eric Snow $6 million dollars and Donyell Marshall $5.5 million for another two seasons. Both of these guys are the equivalent of bullpen specialists and are being paid like starters. That limits the Cavs’ options.
-They could sign and trade Andy or Sasha. My vote is for both. Neither should be a starter on a championship team. So sell high and get what we need in return.

-Brian Windhorst of the Akron Beacon Journal wrote a great piece about the Cavs’ off-season options. Included is the fact that Damon Jones, Ira Newble, and David Wesley are attractive trading chips. You gotta love the economics of the NBA.

-One last thing. if you’re wondering why we don’t have a 1st round pick this year, it’s because Jim Paxson traded it for Jiri Welsch.

so there it was, the 2007 nba finals, your cleveland cavaliers swept by the san antonio spurs with the deathblow coming at the Q. to me game 4 was almost a complete clone of game 3 what with the cavs playing some good D, staying in the game, but not keeping leads when they got them, and somehow just not making shots (seriously how many bricked layups did they have in the last 2 games? not counting anderson's "hand of god" layup in game 3). z, though playing pretty inspired in the last 2 games, also looked slower than ever, and lebron just fell apart in those last couple of minutes.
they got owned by the spurs plain and simple. shit just wasnt meant to be.
i still dont really know what im talking about, so ill just stop. steve should be making another appearance soon with his post-game/series thoughts as well as his views on the offseason.
until then...
the onion's got a good article abaout the cavs championship run, and cleveland.com's got footage of lebron's post game press conference, which has a pretty amazing ending. i expect it to appear in highlight reels if/when they win it all...

...so yeah. no more cavs, no more playoffs, but its the summer time and lord knows summer time means fun time. FYL reunites to DJ HATE JAMS 07 at touch in cleveland july 14th, so mark you calendars.

After a day or so of sulking after that game 3 loss and considering not watching game 4 because i didnt want to slit my wrists, I say fuck it. The Cavs are in the Finals and as bleak as their outlook might seem, it's time to root for the home team. Because as Steve said, we have yet to see "there's no way im losing this game" Lebron, and I sincerely do not believe that he/they will let San Antonio sweep them, especially at the Q.

Speaking of the Q (well, not really but I need a segueway), anybody who sends in/posts a picture of themselves with Michael Wilbon or Stephen A Smith gets a prize. Wilbon can probably be found in/around Browns stadium early/mid-afternoon seeing how thats where hes been doing his half of PTI this week, and Im assuming Stephen A can be found at Tower City, Crazy Horse, or...I've got nothing. A voicemail recording of either will do as well.

NBA Finals 2007, Game 3:

Game 3, Tuesday June 12th, 2007, in Cleveland

Let’s review my to-do list for Game 3 that I wrote on Monday:

-Cavs get foul calls
-Key Spurs get into foul trouble
-Someone hits open shots
-Z wakes up
-Brown benches Hughes
-Brown starts Gibson

The Cavs got to the line early, but went back to settling for jumpers as the game wore on. The positive is that Duncan was in foul trouble most of the game.
The negative is that NO ONE could hit open shots. The Cavs shot 15%!!! from the 3 point line. Conversely, the Spurs shot 56%.

Z had a monster game. He got 18 rebounds as the Cavs finally won back the battle of the boards.

Gibson had a lousy game offensively (1 for 10), but his defense and the threat of his offense made him more valuable than Hughes. Despite the hype, Gibson was not going to be a cure-all for the Cavs. It was simply illogical for Hughes to be playing hurt; Gibson was the better option.

The reality is, the gods were favoring the Cavs last night, but three factors sealed their fate:

-No one could hit an open shot. Even LeBron. The Cavs offense is based on one guy drawing double/triple teams and passing to the open man on the perimeter. If no one makes those shots, they can’t win. Simple as that.

-Too many mental mistakes: Lazy Drew got two straight over-the-back fouls and a hack on Duncan. He was out of position each time. Varejo fumbled a perfect pass from LeBron in transition during the 4th quarter. And the final play…

-No, the final play was not when Bruce Bowen intentionally fouled LeBron while shooting a 3. The final play of the game was when the Cavs got a great stop on defense and brought the ball up, down 2, with 30 seconds to play. The crowd is going crazy. This is it, they’ve been chipping at the Spurs all quarter and this is their chance to win or tie the game. You have the greatest player of his generation with the ball in his hands. Who takes the shot to save the season?

Anderson Varejo!
And its not even Andy in the post for an easy deuce. No, its Andy at the elbow trying to shake ‘n’ bake Tim Duncan, the best power forward in the league. I practically bit a hole through my shirt after that play.

I don’t care if LeBron was fouled on that last shot, the Cavs blew the game 20 seconds earlier. THAT was their best chance to win and they absolutely blew it.

You can blame Brown for not preparing the Cavs with a play. You can blame LeBron for not calling the time out (I don’t, he should’ve attacked before the defense was set) or for passing to Andy. You can blame Andy for taking that shot instead of passing back to LeBron (I can only assume that’s what LeBron expected)….

It doesn’t matter. This was the biggest game of the season for the Cavs and they couldn’t get it done. It makes me sick. After last night, I didn’t even want there to be a Game 4. Just end this humiliation.

But I think Game 4 and Game 5 can show a lot about the Cavs. More importantly, they can show a lot about LeBron. In the words of Bill Simmons, I need him to have at least one “there’s no f’ing way we’re losing this game” games.

They’ve lost the chance to win this series, but maybe they can get their dignity back. For cripes sake, Reggie Miller was on Dan Patrick’s show yesterday saying that the DENVER NUGGETS would smoke the Cavs in a series.

Game 4 will say a lot about this team and where it’s going. I sure hope its good.

Apparently Mike Brown was trying to call a time out during the now fabled "Anderson Layup" (or maybe we can just call it "The Layup") but the noise was too loud that nobody heard him. I am seriously considering not watching game 4, and I am seriously hoping that this is all a part of David Stern's plans to boost ratings by having the Cavs win the championship with the BIGGEST COMEBACK IN FINALS HISTORY.

Drew Gooden and Sasha Pavlovic silently agree that its tiee to take an ether rag to Larry's face and put him in a UHaul until the Finals are done...Goddammit. And what the F is that veiny thing between Larry and Drew??.

Game 2, Sunday June 10th, 2007, in San Antonio

Why did the Cavs lose last night?

It’s very simple:
They couldn’t stop Duncan, Parker, and Manu from doing what they wanted to do on the offensive end.
In addition, the Cavs inability to stop the Spurs had a negative effect on their offensive execution (or lack thereof). Guys were shorting shots, missing free throws, making lazy passes, or missing rebounds. For cripes sake, Manu got a rebound OVER Z at one point.

The reality is that whatever adjustments Mike Brown and the Cavs had made for Game 2 went out the window within the first three minutes of the game. That is when LeBron picked up his second foul and headed for the bench.

Defense is where the Cavs are really getting killed.
I would guess that 80% of the fouls committed by the Cavs came from help defenders because the initial defender was out of position or it was Lazy Drew Gooden.
(Can anyone do some investigative research and see if Drew has a secret twin? It could be like that movie The Prestige. You can just imagine the conversation the two Drews had when one Drew (I’m guessing the lazy one) showed up with that neck toupee. “Oh man, now I have to grow one too so people don’t discover our secret.”)

Despite their difficulties in Texas, I believe the Cavs will win Game 3 for the following reasons:
The Cavs will get a lot of whistles in Cleveland…
Causing key Spurs to get into foul trouble (and I don’t mean Oberto)
Someone is going to start hitting open shots
Zzzzzzydrunas will wake up
The gambling community will release Mike Brown’s pet gerbil, allowing him to put Larry Hughes and his broken foot on the bench
Mike Brown will be introduced to Daniel Gibson BEFORE the first quarter ends. (Brown: “Boy, I sure could use a quick guard who can shoot to offset Tony Parker…” Gibson: “Hi coach, my name is Daniel Gibson, nice to meet you. Wait, I’m not the ball boy. Stop handing me towels! I’m on the team! Put me in!”)
David Wesley will pull off his crush velvet three piece suit during pre-game warm ups and play a “vintage Wesley” game. (If you combine a vintage Wesley game with a vintage Snow game does it come close to equaling a vintage Brevin Knight game? Just curious)

Silver Lining
Last year the Miami Heat was getting killed by the Mavs in all areas, until the 4th quarter of Game 3. After that, Dwyane Wade started destroying their “defense” (and getting a lot of calls) and guys started hitting shots (notably, White Chocolate and Antoine Walker). Next thing you know, the dead and buried Heat had won the Finals in convincing fashion.

Media Pet Peeve
Throughout the playoffs, I have listened to countless “experts” state that LeBron just needs to “step up” or be a “superstar.” What the hell does that mean, exactly? That’s some real in depth analysis. As if it was as simple as a video game: “LeBron, just hit the turbo button!” I mean what do they expect? James to just score 48 points against a championship level team on the road in the playoffs? Hmm, on second thought, maybe I should predict a Game 4 win for the Cavs too…

Most importantly, he is a tried and true Cleveland fan who calls it like it is.

Lebron tries to wipe his game face off.

Game 1, Thursday June 7th, 2007, in San Antonio
Defense
• Z is a defensive liability on the screen and roll with Duncan.
• Hughes is a defensive liability on a much faster Tony Parker.
• Damon Jones is a defensive liability on anybody.
• Donyell Marshall is a defensive liability on himself.
• Notice a trend?
• At this point, the Cavs are better playing a lineup consisting of Gibson (on Parker), Sasha (on Manu/Finley), James (Bowen), Andy (Duncan), and a warm body (Oberto/Elson).
• When the Spurs switch to their defensive line up (Jacques Vaughn, Robert Horry), the Cavs can get away with putting Z or Hughes in the game. Otherwise, they should stay on the bench.
• Later on, the Cavs tried to double team Parker and Duncan to compensate for Hughes and the rest, but that just left Bowen/Horry/Manu wide open for 3’s.

Offensive
• The high pick and roll with James and Z/Marshall/Gooden/Andy is not going to work against the Spurs’ defense. Mainly because the Spurs are creating a shell around the post (not unlike what international teams have been doing against the “Dream Teams” the last decade) which takes away driving lanes.
• The essence of the pick and roll is that either James or the “picker” will get a clear lane to the basket. When the Cavs run the pick and roll, both Spurs defenders are staying on James and letting the man setting the pick run to the hoop. The problem is, because the rest of the Spurs defenders are staying home on the post, that player is essentially guarded as well. Therefore, the pick and roll isn’t producing any advantage for the Cavs. If anything, it’s feeding into the Spurs’ plan to double James at the top of the key.
• Other than James getting a pick at the top of the key, the only offensive play the Cavs run is “James drives and kicks it to Damon, Donyell, or Boobie with Andy in the post to get the rebound.” The problem is, this lineup got killed on the defensive side of the ball (see the 3rd quarter of game 1). Besides, Donyell Marshall ain’t gonna win you a championship.
• The Cavs got through the first three rounds of the playoffs because they had more talent. Well they don’t have more talent than the Spurs. Their one trump card is James, and they aren’t properly utilizing him. James should either be coming off the ball (catching the ball in the lane off of screens), or he should stick his ass into Bowen and post him up. Either way, the Cavs will get a much better shot than anything they saw in Game 1. When James receives the ball at the top of the key and surveys the defense, he allows the defense to set up to stop him.

Intangibles
• The Cavs don’t have to play a perfect to beat the Spurs, but they can’t make all of the mental errors they committed in Game 1.
• Case in point, at least twice, a Spurs foul shooter got his own rebound on a miss (should NEVER happen). The Spurs also got more offensive rebounds than the Cavs (can’t happen).
• Drew Gooden took more than a few naps on defense during this game. I know, he scored a lot in the 3rd quarter, but that’s what is so annoying about Gooden (besides his neck toupee). The guy flashes talent on one play, and genuine disinterest/stupidity on the next. That’s not going to fly in the Finals when you’re guarding one of the best players of all time.
• The Cavs barely got any whistles last night and you could see it frustrated them. The fact is, they got a lot of favorable calls in Games 5 and 6 against the Pistons. That is not going to happen in San Antonio, so you need to adjust.
• I don’t know that last night could have gone much worse for the Cavs. I would have given them a better chance to win Game 1 against a rusty Spurs team than Game 2. That said, maybe Mike Brown (or James) will make adjustments and they’ll steal Game 2. Or maybe Scott Pollard can take a tire iron to Duncan’s knee before shootaround. Either one works.

Editor's thought: The folks playing the Undertaker's theme while they introduced the Cavs was a nice touch on their part. "Ya'll Ready For This" while they introduced the Spurs wasnt.

its been 4 days since the cavs took the eastern conference crown from the pistons and im still reeling from it.
just when i thought i was done with it, im listening to a bill simmons podcast (which arent bad so much as they are kind of weird, because his voice isnt quite made for radio and the casts themselves are mostly just long conversations about everything and anything. check it out if youre a simmons fan...of whom roger brown isnt. speaking of roger brown, its kind of sad yet hilarious that hes been reduced to a paper like the news herald...but i digress....) where he's asking marv albert what it was like to call lebron's "48 special" (game 5), and checking yay sports for the cavalier's insights on how/why the cavs have succesfully dethroned the pistons as the "beast in the east".
its day 4 and im still thinking about that lebron/z hug (full hetero on that one) and wondering just how happy austin carr is right now.

but its midnight, the night before game 1 of the finals between the cavs and spurs, and that eastern conference stuff must all go to the way side.

at 11:00pm nike officiall launched phase 2 of the lebron witness campaign, dropping the commercial on sportscenter and throwing up a new site where you can download all past lebron wallpapers (the one with the throne and lions is still key) and you can upload how lebron has effected your life...or something.
the commercial, though poetic, doesnt move me like last year's did, what with the shots of cleveland and school kids set to that drum beat. but fuck it if i didnt watch it 5 times at 11:00.

11:30 i drank a beer and smoked on my fire escape, looked out at the night time brooklyn landscape, and i actually felt nervous.

do i still stand by my statement of "even if (the cavs) get swept ill be happy"? sure, but dammit we've got a chance. even dick vitale thinks so (peep the mike and mike podcast at espn.com for 6/4).

that guy from akron. we've seen how the cavs have reacted these playoffs, with their strong defense, boards, and offensive strategies of "give lebron the ball and see what happens" or "give lebron the ball but put every dude who can shoot 3's out there with him and see what happens". will z step up to timmy? where will larry fit in what with his bum ankle and "boobie" becoming the prince to lebron's king? do i even know what im talking about anymore?

well, i probably dont, so as of tonight i tapped my buddy steve to do game analysis for the finals. the dude's a teacher so you know hes smart, knows his sports, and when we trade emails about the cavs his read like a newspaper column while mine read like an a homeless man's diary entry.

i bought the new bone album today for luck. all i need is another pack of lightning lemonade and my trusty cavs shirt.

last time i posted about the buckeyes and florida and a championship, well, we all know what happened...

so let's hear it for opening day! contrary to popular belief, CC's going to start and like i said before, im feeling good about this season. i still dont know about sending choo to the minors because of how clutch moments he had last season, but what do i know. once cliff lee gets back in the swing of things we'll see where this ship will sail.

pistons pull one out against detroit extending their lead of the east over the cavs, as the cavs fall to the lowly celtics. which i was extra disappointed with because a.) they cavs actually play well without lebron, and b.) its the celtics...without paul pierece. ah well, we've got a playoff spot locked down, i just hope "bron bron" gets the rest he needs.

The Good Times Just Keep On Comin!

Well, it's happened again. CC's probably going to miss the season opener.
And while we're talking Cleveland Curse, espn.com has yet another chart of the most tortured, this time broken down into teams. Cleveland did nicely with all three major teams (Browns, Indians, and Cavs) being in the top 25, and David Schoenfield even gave the Browns the honor by saying "The Browns have suffered more soul-sucking moments than any franchise." And then he went on to agree/admit that the Rocky Colavito Curse is real.
It's always comforting when other people notice Cleveland's shittiness in sports, like, "ok, it's not just us who think this way."

it wasnt too long ago that mike and i were discussing how this season seemed so lacklustre but now i can smell it in the air. this game meant a lot as everyone seemed to already be giving detroit the central, if not the east, and the cavs, despite losing their last 5 to detroit, showed that they still got that swagger they showed in the playoffs last season. let's just see if they can keep it up for the rest of the season.

and lastly, spring training. im feeling pretty good about the indians this season (well, i guess ive been saying that for 3 years now) but i dont think im the only one. many a sports writers see travis hafner and grady "handsome" sizemore as having all star seasons, that coupled with some new guys in the bullpen, some decent acquisitions on the field, and uh, yeah. baseball. boys of summer.

prior to valentine's day i came up with what i thought was a genius plan: one of us come up with a place to eat and the other come up with something to do afterwards. simple enough, but neither me nor my girlfriend could settle on who did what until i stumbled across this dandy of a show on the bowery presents site.
having learned about her through byron crawford of all places, she made my summer with some of the best pop music ive heard since that first justin timberlake solo album. and though i heard her first live performance(s) on these shores were a little lacklustre, i couldnt pass this up, especially since it conveniently fell on the night we decided to do this valentine's day shit. so there it was, i chose lily allen, the girlfriend chose seafood.
got to webster hall at about 7 and shit didnt start until about 8. never been there before and it wasnt a bad venue. very house of blues like, drinks were overpriced, not too big but not small. like i said, it reminded me a lot of the house of blues or the metro in chicago.
a DJ warmed up the crowd for about 40 minutes mainly mixing and mashing songs. i believe his name is aaron lacrate, and while he started out kind of shittily mixing a lot of techno with modern rock (franz ferdinand, and not that well) he later redeemed himself by mixing shit like michael jackson and tone! toni! tony!
and then, a couple of jack and cokes later the lights went down and full band came out. all dresed in i believe jeans(?) and green polo shirts, there was a horn section (trumper, trombone, sax), drummer, keyboard, guitar, and bassist...basically a fucking ska band. and then lily came out, wearing a ponytail and a thin material white dress with i believe a thin plaid pattern. they busted right into "LDN" except with her replacing "london town" with "NYC" and "new york town" much to the pleasure of the crowd. and she played basically every song off of her album, and even did a little acoustic medley of songs im not familiar with (she admitted to the crowd "ive only got one album" so she wanted to make it worth our while). and she was basically on point all night. reviews of her earlier shows said she lacked stage presence and that her voice wasnt that strong live, but this night she sounded amazing (though you could tell her vocals were turned way the fuck up). she was burping and giggling for a while there, which she blamed on her lunch (shepards pie from tea and sympathy, which got cheers from the crowd because people love hearing famous people name places theyre familiar with). highlights were "knock em out", "window shopper", "little things", and "everythings just wonderful", which got me thinking about how she might be the anti-pop pop singer.
shes pretty but not say, "hot" like christina aguilera, and her songs are about normal things from a somewhat normal point of view (even though shes the daughter of a famous british actor) or even an almost outsider (socially) point of view (her explaining that "everythings just wonderful" is basically a song saying "fuck you" to the man) and it made me like her even more. but, whatever. simplistic lightshow (there were stars behind her on "little things" which was borderline corny but nice) and like i said, the sound was great. i was little apprehensive about the live band at first, but like i said, most of her songs are set to ska/reggae beats, so logically a live ska band would make it sounds awesome, and they did. she finished her set with "everythings just wonderful" and then came back for the encore, smoking a cigarette (oh yeah at one point she did a shot of jagermeister and the crowd went bonkers) and did her cover of "blank expression" by the specials (which isnt that great of a cover but because its the specials i love it) and finished the night off with "alfie".
all in all, it was great. she sounded great, had good energy, and gave a great show. it made me long for the summer, but what are you gonna do. its february.
afterwards we walked over to max brenner and had a peanut butter and chcolate crepe with some mexican hot chocolate. good times.

now lebron is my man when it comes to basketball, but gilbert arenas is quickly becoming my #2. last year he earned many a clevelander's respect in that playoff series (though im sure any clevelander would be quick to remind him of lebron whispering in his ear), and this year hes not slowing down as hes seriously lighting up the floor with 50 point games and game winning shots (dont forget his "HIBACHI!" celebration). that coupled with his somewhat odd behavior (peep some of his interviews), makes for one interesting dude.
so why am i bringing this up? is it because he made a last second comeback against vince "i didnt really try in toronto" carter in the allstar voting? no, its because of the revenge tour hes been on this year against the coaches who cut him from the US national team. anytime dudes do things like this for vengeance (see Lance Armstrong's final tour de france), it has me laughing. i mean, he already dropped 54 against the suns (coach d'antoni)earlier this season, and now he has his sights set on nate mcmillan and the blazers. however, things get even better when asked about team USA's head coach.

Bad Brains w/ Avail, McRad, Dub Trio @ CBGBs

I had originally started writing this post about 2 hours ago, but when I went to save, the stupid shit crashed and I lost it all. So now I am giving you an extremely compressed version of my review of this show.
Me and my friend Jay went to CBGBs to see Bad Brains. Ive never been to CBGBs and Ive never seen Bad Brains so I was pumped to be able to do take care of two birds with one stone. The week before I found out that Avail was opening so I was even more pumped (because they are one of my favorite bands). Bad Brains is also one of my favorite bands, thanks in part to this this book and to see what was rumored to be the original lineup was a wet dream. Left work, got to CB's in record time. Waited in line for about 45 minutes while a lady gave me a flyer that looked like Aaron Cometbus wrote it about how a hassidic Jew stole money and hates CBGBs. Got inside, club is not how I imagined it. It really is as small as people say, long, narrow, definitely weathered and grizzled. Beers were overpriced, remnants of shitty band stickets and such looked like they were keeping the walls together. Went to the bathroom, which wasnt as I thought (im sure they renovated within the last few years) thought the men's toilet was perched utop this cement platform facing out, which meant that anybody who walked in would see you shitting, and unless you had a newspaper, you were there for all to see. There were a lot of big dudes who worked out a lot. Dub Trio was interesting for the first few songs with their punk/metal/dub reggae hybrid, but it got really formulaic and their choice of metal riffs (90s alternative metal like Helmet) got really generic. McRad was really bad. Avail was amazing. I have seen then something like 8 times, and just when you think its gotten old, it hasnt. Its still good to hear those songs live, and its still fun to sing along. And before they started and before their last song, they talked about how much of an honor it was to be playing at CBGBs in support of Bad Brains, and thanked everyone over and over again through out their set, reminding me of how cool and humble these guys still are. Tim (the lead singer) even thanked "people from Cleveland" in his list of thank yous, which deep down I was hoping he said in every city because Cleveland likes Avail that much. Or that maybe he was talking to me. Ha. So an hour or so after Avail finished, Bad Brains took the stage. An hour. An hour of dub reggae, the dude from McRad tuning the bass and scaring everyone into thinking he was filling in for Darryl, and the crowd slowly growing restless. Dr Know was on stage first, tuning his guitar, then followed Earl on the drums. They tuned their shit and then Darryl came out and then, in dramatic fashion, HR finally strolled ou decked in a shiny peach color suit coat looking thing, knit hat, and beard. Now I had heard that HR had been off his rocker for a while. In fact I heard that when the "Soul Brains" had stopped in Cleveland, he did the show from a chair hugging a mop. But somehow I had forgotten all of this up until this point, and the only thing I was really worried about was his not showing up. So hes showed up. Good...right? They launched into the first few chords of a song I honestly dont know (Ill be honest, as much as I say I like Bad Brains, I only really know the first album, which means that I am a poseur), and then stopped almost immediately as the the moshing started. "PLEASE YALL, DONT HURT EACH OTHER. DO NOT HURT YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. HR WILL LEAVE. HE DOESNT LIKE THAT SHIT IM TELLIN YOU" yelled one of the dudes in the band (I took my glasses off at this point because I aint about to get this shit broken). And then the show proceeded. The dance floor erupted in the classic "theres too many people in here so the crowd is just going to sway around the entire time", the band was tearing it up, and HR...was standing there, smiling. Keep in mind that for the entire show, HR was sitting next to the walkway that leads to the basement/bathroom, with a guitar in his lap, smiling, and staring like only a crazy person stares, and that everytime I walked by, I thought he was just some rasta dude down with the band. So hes standing there, and singing, but I couldnt tell if he was really singing or if it was someone else. Then I realized that he was singing into a broken headset that kept cutting out, which combined with the weird pseudo-fake-British accented-sugar-pixie-voice he was doing, made him sound like a space alien trying to communicate with humans. Whether or not he was high...ah lets be honest, he was high as a kite, he sang in sort of a monotone, and barely moved, except for making weird hand motions with his hands. They went through "Right Brigade", "Sailing On", "Attitude"and couple more before the microphone thing started to annoy people. "H AH(like a new york accent) USE THE FUCKING MICROPHONE PLEASE", "YO H AH, USE THE FUCKING MIC", "WHY DONT YOU GET JOHN JOSEPH (of the Cro Mags who had played with the band in place of HR a few months ago) TO SING FOR CHRISTS SAKE" and shit like that. Which is kind of understandable because you didnt really pay to see some dude barely sing into a shitty microphone, but at the same time, maybe some of us did. Im sure everyone knew that they didnt know what they were getting into with HR when buying this ticket (except for me), and if the dude is so prone to flake out I didnt think it was a good idea to yell at the dude, but hey, its New York. So at this point, theyre playing their first reggae song ( "Jah Calling"?) and HR is slowly lurching around the stage, and then proceeds to put a gold motorcycle helmet on and lurch around some more. Pretty amazing. Then he takes it off, and then, in what would appear to be a brief momeny of sanity (or him caring), HR actually takes the headset off and grabs the mic, and they keep going into "Supertouch", "I", and Im soaking it all in up until they hit reggae song #2 by which point Im dehydrated, sick of touching sweaty folks, and tired of standing. Id heard almost all the songs I wanted to hear (except for "Banned In DC" and "Fearless Vampire Killers") and I remembered that I had a job so I slowly waded through the sea of people to the door, hoping I can find something to drink outside. I get outside, text message Jay to tell him I left, and take the train home.
So was this the show of my life? I dont know. To be honest, I dont know the last time I felt truly happy and excited after leaving a show, at least since high school. But it was pretty amazing because Id seen CBGBs, and Id seen Bad Brains, HR's craziness and all. Was it the same as seeing Bad Brains at CBGBs in 1982? I think its safe to say "no, not at all", but was it worth my time and money to check out? Definitely.
So I realize that this has turned into a pretty long post, but I must tell you (all 3 of you) that the original post was almost just as long before it disappeared, but I had just gotten to the point where I walked up to the club. So fuck your life.

So I was sitting on the toilet yesterday, reading a review of Madden 2007 in the August issue of The Source, and in it were some quotes from this year's Madden cover boy, Shaun Alexander of the Seahawks. When asked about the so-called "Madden Curse" (which goes back to 1999's cover boy Barry Sanders' somewhat random retirement from football), Shaun merely laughed it off, claiming that he had beaten the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx by running for a few hundreds yards and scoring some touchdowns or some shit. Well, his foot is in his proverbial mouth right now, or rather, his foot is now broken and he is out indefinitely.

New Bone Song

"Just Vibe"
New Bone site on the way, with a link to what appears to be the new single called "Just Vibe". The beats starts off pretty nicely (Im assuming this is Swizz?) but tends to be kind of repetitive as Bone flows pretty nicely over the beat about hanging out, the 1st of the month, bill collectors, people biting their style, the same old shit. It's a song sort of the in the vain of their drug love songs (theres too many to name), laid back beat and a lot of their singing. And I dont know if hes doing it to balance out the group now that Bizzy's gone (crazy), but there are parts where Wish is rapping in an octave a little higher than we're used to, and it sounds kind of funny. Funnier if you picture him circling the block outside a Mike Jones show looking for a place to park.
But yeah, Im definitely curious to see how the rest of the album pans out.
